How can machine learning support and expand people’s creative practices?

OnI think machine learning supports and expands people’s creative practices by creating more possibilities and serving as a medium/tool for artistic creation. With different sensors, machine learning can enhance how gestures and movements generate unique effects, expanding the potential for artistic expression. People could use their hand gesture to control instruments, painting virtually, and even control game character, which I think are very cool to play with. This capability helps artists explore new ways of creating. By using data to train models, ideas are transmitted through the datasets they work with. Manipulating these datasets with specific intentions becomes a new form of expression, providing people with diverse opportunities and methods for creation. Therefore, machine learning opens up tons of creative possibilities and gives people new ways to express their ideas.

Project Proposal

I want to create a DJ pad that uses the Handpose or BodyPose model. I was inspired by an app I used before, and I think it would be interesting to control the pad using hand motions. My plan is to divide the screen into six sections, each linked to a sound track; when the hand is detected in a certain area of the screen, the corresponding audio track will play. If I have more time, I would like to incorporate feet positions to control the pitch of the audio track currently playing.
